My name is Kaliko Castille. I’m the Co-Founder of ThndrStrm Strategies and President of the Minority Cannabis Business Association (MCBA).
“Kaliko” is Hawaiian and means “the bud that blossoms.” It was the inoa (name) given to my Dad when he was still living in Hawai’i and dancing hula under a well-known kumu hula (hula teacher) named John Keolamaka’ainana Lake. As I tell people when I tell them about my name, it was written in the stars that I would end up in this industry.
In addition to my work advocating for minority entrepreneurs and advancing equitable cannabis policies with the MCBA, I am also a Co-Founder of ThndrStrm Strategies, a digital strategy consulting firm that helps businesses in the cannabis industry develop and execute a integrated digital strategy.
I’ve spent the last 11 years working in marketing and digital organizing in the cannabis industry, helping to build brands and organizations as a self-taught college drop out.
In 2010, I attended my first Global Cannabis March in Portland, OR and had the opportunity to meet Russ Belville, NORML's Outreach Director. This experience sparked my interest in cannabis activism and I was offered an internship with NORML in Portland, where I helped produce daily live radio content and learned about the power of building communities on the internet.
Since then, I’ve ran a political action committee organizing voters and raising money for legalization in Oregon; ran sales and marketing for a number of cannabis startups and served as Director of Marketing for National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA).
Over the course of my career, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business and have built an network of branding experts, content creators and top-level marketers that I want to help make available to any entrepreneur that is trying to make it in the cannabis industry.
